About the Resort:
This is a tiny resort by many standards, but they don't let their overall size keep them from offering one of the best skiing experiences in Utah. Sometimes smaller is better, and the attention they give their guests more than makes up for the limited size. This is truly a family resort and they are very welcoming to children. If you're looking for a place to take the family on a ski vacation in this area, this resort should be the first choice.
They are also very well known for their incredibly cheap lift tickets, and the prices are just about half off what the other resorts in the area charge. This accounts for their popularity in many cases, but their prices don't reflect the quality of the runs. Everything is so well maintained and the trails are so well groomed you would easily think you were paying twice the amount they ask.
Season passes are also provided which give skiers even bigger discounts, but they only offer a few each year. If you're interested, contact them early on in the season since they do go very quickly.
What You Need to Know:
They have a relatively short season, running from November 24th through April 1st. The area gets about 350 inches of snow every year, but they do supplement the trails by making their own snow. This ensures that visitors are always going to get a great experience on the trails, even in bad years.
The resort has 21 trails that cover about 100 acres, and they have a lift system in place that moves around 4500 people an hour. The low prices and atmosphere do mean that the place can get a little crowded, especially during the holidays, but we didn't find that we had to stand in line for terribly long while we were there.
Snowboarding is encouraged here and they currently have one terrain park available. No halfpipes are offered, but the park is well set up to allow boarders to have plenty of fun and pick up some great skills.
Tips for Beginners:
This is one of the few resorts in the area that really focuses on beginners and kids, so you'll have plenty of trails to practice on. About 30% of the trails are ideal for beginner use and there is only one run, the Bayot's Boulevard, that should be avoided by beginners.
Lessons are provided right on site and the prices are very low. They offer numerous specials and have lessons geared towards adults, kids and even snowboarders. The teachers are great here and overall, we consider this to be one of the best places to learn how to ski in Utah.
