US Ski Team Member Profile of David Babic

David Babic in a current member of the US Ski Team that is quickly rising in popularity. He was born in Berlin, VT and currently resides in Washington, VT. He has been on the team for four years, and this 29 year old athlete is definitely a rising star you’ll want to keep your eye on.

Currently attending of Champlain College and taking online courses, Babic is sponsored by the Sugarbush Ski Resort. During the off season, Babic enjoys fly fishing, wakeboarding as well as camping and hiking. Babic began skiing at an early age and became deeply interested in skiing after watching the ’94 Olympics and immediately enrolled in the Nick Preston ski program, located in Waterville Valley, NH.

A quick study, Babic later moved to Colorado to take up skiing full time and later took several camping trips to the Mount Hood area to work on his skills. Currently a combined skier, he also competes in inverted aerials. After his first world cup win, it is clear that Babic is headed for greatness in the sport.

Babic helped coach “sprouts” at the Olympic Utah Park in 2003 and hopes to be either a professional surfer or a hunting guide in the future once he is done competing in skiing. He also currently offers instruction at Mogul Logic camps located in Blackcomb, BC. It was here that he developed a new coaching style for freestyle skiing, and joined fellow skiers Travis Cabral and Travis Mayer in teaching these methods at the camp.

Babic recently completed his first book, New School, that combined his knowledge of skiing and ski jumping, further illustrating his new techniques. The book was written with the help of a friend from the German ski team. Athletes and coaches alike are using the book as a manual to learn Babic’s techniques. The book also helps readers learn how to do fun tricks and complicated maneuvers that are sure to get the attention of anyone watching.
