About the Resort:
The Canyons is one of the nicest ski resorts in the Park City area, and although the fees are a bit high, especially during peak periods and on weekends, you do get quite a lot for your money. The best feature about this resort for travelers has to be its prime location, which is just three short miles from Main street in town. This makes it very easy to return to your hotel at the end of the day, and it won't take long to get there either.
What You Need to Know:
The season starts in mid-November and runs through mid-April. This area gets plenty of snow and at this time, the resort does not do any snowmaking. Despite this, we found that the trails were all very well groomed and there were not any bald patches or problem areas.
There are seventeen different lifts that move around 25000 people an hour, making sure that waiting is not a real problem here. We did find that there was a short wait during the peak season, but that is to be expected. This is an enormous ski area, with more than 3700 ski-able acres and 155 trails. Whether you're serious about the sport, or just looking for a lot of variety, this is definitely the place to ski in the Park City area.
There are no half pipes for snowboarders, but there are two terrain parks that offer plenty of fun. This is also a great place for beginners to learn the ropes.
Tips for Beginners:
Approximately 17% of the trails here are suitable for beginners, but considering that there are 155 trails, this gives beginners more than enough options. As mentioned previously, the terrain park is also a good place to get started. Lessons are offered throughout the day and we found the instructors to be very good and the fundamentals taught were essential.
There is also a snowboarding school for those interested in learning this sport and once again, you'll be able to learn the most important basics that will get you started off right. This is a very beginner friendly ski resort, despite the small amount of trails and it's a great place for kids to learn how to ski.
