About the Resort -
If you are looking to enjoy a resort that personifies the best qualities of beautiful Southwestern Colorado in the wintertime, then the Hesperus Ski Area is where its at. Offering skiing by day and beneath the stars from the top of an 8,800 foot mountain, the lighted Hesperus ski area is waiting for you.
What You Need to Know -
Nighttime skiing season begins in January most years, and nighttime skiing runs between 4 o'clock pm and 9 o'clock pm. In 2008, night skiing began on January 7th. Regular season hours are Saturday from 9 o'clock am until 9 o'clock pm, and Sunday 9 o'clock am until 4 o'clock pm. There is a nice selection of terrain, with evenly split up sections that are comprised of 20 percent green, 20 percent blue, 30 percent black and 30 percent double black diamond which means there is a nice range of challenges no matter what your experience level is on the slopes. Ski Hesperus gets around 65" of snowfall per year, and has about 60 acres of terrain to ski or snowboard on. The season begins around mid December and ends in the beginning of March. If weather permits and there is still snowfall, the season may be extended but this is not normally likely.
Tips for Beginners:
If you are a beginner to skiing and are just hitting the slopes for the first or second time, it would be fruitful to take advantage of the First Time Skier Package. This package offers ski rentals, lessons and a lift ticket. The price is $55 dollars for an adult and $48 dollars for junior skiers. This cost is not much more than a traditional lift ticket, however it also affords you the rental gear that you need, along with a basic instructional lesson. Combining simply the cost of the lift ticket and rentals would cost more than this, so it is definitely worthwhile if you are looking to brush up on your skills on the slopes.
Fees -
There are no half day passes offered here, so there are only full day lift tickets available. On weekdays, the only lift ticket available is a standard adult ticket which costs $32.00. On weekends and holidays, adult tickets for full days cost $32.00 and junior tickets are $21.00. Lift tickets for night time skiing are different, and go for $25.00 per adult ticket and $15.00 per junior ticket. You can also get a night time pass at the National Ski Patrol Swap in November, which runs for $149.00 and allows you to ski during night time hours throughout the season. If you need rental gear, you can find what you need for $12.00 or $10.00 for adults and juniors respectively to rent a ski package, or $20.00 across the board to rent a snowboarding gear package no matter your age.

Spooner Lake Cross Country Ski Area is located in: Carson City, NV
Phone: (775) 749-5349
Website: http://www.spoonerlake.com/
About the Resort:
This is an incredible resort that spans more than 9000 acres. Whether you are brand new to cross country skiing or an old pro, this is probably the best place to go in the area. They’ve done a great job of making sure that all levels of cross skiers will have more than enough to do and there are also plenty of other activities here that the entire family can enjoy.
We loved the log cabins for lodging and they are all very well maintained and cozy. This is truly the spot for a relaxing weekend getaway and you won’t be too crowded either, since there is more than enough room for everyone here.
What You Need to Know:
Since many of these trails are remote, the management asks that all skiers bring their own food, water, and preparations. You’ll be pretty far from the base on many of these trails and it is imperative to make sure that you have everything you need with you. Advanced skiers that plan to stay awhile will be best served by using the cabins that can be found in many spots along the trail.
This is a serious place to cross country ski, but you’ll still have plenty of fun. The trails are immaculately groomed and there are frequent patrols to make sure that everyone is safe and well cared for.
Tips for Beginners:
The beginner trails can be found at the base of the mountain and there are also some great lessons that you can take advantage of throughout the day. We highly recommend going on one of the shorter trails until you are well versed in the art of cross country skiing since it can be tiring. Make sure to bring plenty of food with you and learn about packing while skiing to make it easier.
Even though many of these trails are geared towards more experienced cross country skiers we still found that this was a great place to learn and enjoy the art.

Website: http://www.mtrose.com/
About the Resort:
This is a very well known resort that is just a little over the border from California and it has become a very popular destination for many travelers. If you're serious about skiing, this is a great place to go, and it is also very family friendly. It is centrally located near hotels, a military base and the airport and is one of the easiest resorts to access in this area.
What You Need to Know:
The resort is open from 8am to 6pm every day during the season and even though this is a popular resort, they don't have a problem with overcrowding. There are a total of eight lifts, but they are so fast that you generally do not end up having to wait around for very long. In fact, one of the lifts will rocket you 1800 feet in a little under 4 minutes.
With more than 60 trails, a slide bowl and plenty of chutes, this is a great place to go if you like the thrill of skiing hard and fast. They keep the trails very well groomed and they do make snow if the season is a little dry, or if the trails are a little sparse.
Tips for Beginners:
About 20% of their trails are dedicated to beginners and they offer lessons throughout the day. Private lessons are offered, as well as special group lessons and a school for kids. The instructors here are very good and will give you a great background with some solid techniques.
There are also special lesson packages if you'll be staying for more than a weekend that offer a great deal and help you get a real feel for how to ski. This is also a good place to learn how to snowboard and we found that the facility was very friendly to boarders.

What You Need to Know:
There are currently 30 runs in operation, with some tree skiing allowed, as well as open areas. There are a total of 655 acres to ski here, and six lifts are in operation. Even though there are not a ton of lifts, we did not find that waiting was a problem here and everything runs quite smoothly. This is a true resort with high class lodging, great stores and terrific food.
The longest run is around 2.5 miles and there are some great opportunities here for both beginning and advanced skiers.
Tips for Beginners:

The lesson fees are reasonable and special packages are available as well. Website: http://www.cedarpasssnowpark.com/
About the Resort:
This is a well kept secret in the Cedarville area, and one of the nicest resorts we've been to in some time. The park is actually community owned and staffed entirely by volunteers. They strive to bring a small town atmosphere to the park and succeed nicely. You'll be among friends here and this is a great place to take the family. Although it may not be the glitziest resort in the world, or the most popular, it is one resort that should be visited at least once, particularly if you do plan to be in this area.
What You Need to Know:
This resort is snowboard friendly and there are many different activities available to keep the whole family entertained. The prices are incredibly low given the level of service and despite the fact that it is entirely staffed by volunteers, the trails are very well groomed and maintained.
It is however only open on weekends and holidays during the winter months and the hours of operation are 10am to 4pm. The lift is a t-bar style and although it doesn't move thousands of people an hour there is little chance of having to wait in line here.
Tips for Beginners:
This is one of the most beginner friendly places to ski. The trails are gentle, the safety patrols are diligent and lessons are offered throughout the day. There are a total of six runs here and most are suitable for beginning skiers. The lower portion of The Road trail is ideal for beginners, and can be accessed via a rope tow lift.
There is also a great powder bowl that is a lot of fun and should be visited at least once while you're here. There is an area for Nordic skiers and you may even be able to get a lesson on this form of skiing if you happen to get a day where a pro is volunteering.

Beaver Mountain is located in: Logan, UT

About the Resort:
This is a resort that should be insanely popular, due to the prime facilities, helpful staff and terrific location, and even though they do get quite a lot of visitors, this is still considered to be a well kept secret resort. If you'll be in the Logan area, this is the ideal place to go skiing, no matter how well you know your stuff. The resort may be a bit smaller than its competitors, but it is still one of the best places to ski in Utah.
What You Need to Know:
With just a little over 500 acres, and only five lifts, this is a small place, but they use the space well and it never feels overcrowded. The trails are incredibly well groomed and they've done a great job of working with the space that they have, laying out the trails properly and making sure that everything runs smoothly.
This family friendly resort is well suited for beginners, and they are also very open to snowboarders. You'll find something for everyone here for activities, and the resort is actually open all year round, even if you can't ski during part of the time.
Tips for Beginners:
There are quite a few trails here that are perfect for beginners, and that are nice and gentle. We found the lessons to be very well priced, especially considering how good the instructors are. If you have kids that need to learn how to ski, this is a great place where they can get all of the fundamentals.
Ski lessons are held throughout the day and there are also some special deals you can take advantage of to get discounts on lift tickets and lessons. The trails are patrolled frequently, and you'll find this is a very safe place to learn how to ski the right way.
