Storage and Maintenance of Skiing Equipment

Skis

You are going to want to wipe down your skis after you go skiing any time. The edges of your skis are going to rust if you do not take care of them because they are made out of a carbon steel material that is capable of becoming rusted. You should make sure that your skis are being stored in a cool and dry area. You should never lean them against a concrete floor or a hot pipe. During the summer, it is a good idea for you to make use of a light coating of some type of oil so that the ski edges can be kept from rusting while you are not using them.

Bindings

You are going to want to keep your ski bindings clean all the time because the road salt and the dirt are capable of corroding these bindings, causing the potential for them to malfunction. You should make sure that your bindings are checked by a local ski shop at least yearly to make sure that they are completely and properly functioning. When you are storing your skiing equipment over the summer you are going to want to make sure that your release settings are turned down. This is going to keep the release settings more consistent for a much longer period of time.

Boots

You are going to want to make sure that you have buckled your boots up after every use. You are also going to want to make sure that all of the various layers have been folded properly over one another. This is going to help to make sure that your boots maintain their shape and that they continue to be comfortable for you. You are also going to want to make sure that your boots have completely dried out after you use this. This way they are going to be warmer the next time you want to put them on your feet. Finally, you are going to want to make sure that the soles on the bottom of your boots are kept completely clean and free of any dirt. Make sure that you are not wearing the heels or the toes down on your boots. Clean and unworn boots tend to release more consistently when it comes to your bindings.

Traveling

When you are traveling, you are going to want to make sure that you are using a ski bag or a binding cover when you are transporting your skis above your car. This is going to help make sure that they are protected from grime and road salt while your vehicle is moving. When you are traveling via a plane, a train or a bus, make sure that your skis are being protected using a ski bag. This is also actually going to make them significantly easier for you to carry.
