About the Resort:
This is a legendary resort that has built up an incredible reputation as beign one of the finest places to ski in the world. With their advanced lift system, six different peaks from which to choose and plenty of places to eat and stay, this is the ideal spot for any winter vacation. There is an entire village built around the resort, and they offer all different kinds of cuisine, shopping experiences and more. The resort has special stay and play packages with more than 50 local hotels, so you're sure to be able to save money on your trip here.
What You Need to Know:
Squaw Valley opens its trails in mid-November and the season runs through the end of May. This is actually quite long for a season and is part of the reason that the resort is so popular. There are many different activities available for those that don't like skiing, from mountain top ice skating to tubing, and other winter sports. It's hard for anyone to get bored here. There are 33 lifts, which move more than 49,000 people an hour, countless trails, two halfpipes, and three different terrain parks. The resort is open from 9am to 9pm most days, and a half hour earlier on weekends.
There is also a terrain park for snowboarders and many different jumps and areas for lovers of this sport. Unlike many resorts, Squaw Valley is very friendly to boarders and you won't feel ostracized here.
Tips for Beginners:
The resort offers many different types of instruction, from general basic entry level skiing tips throughout the day, to special clinics that are designed for the elderly, rank beginners and even a special women's clinic. Even though the beginner area is at 8200 feet, this is a very safe environment to learn how to ski.
We found the staff to be very helpful and they are also great with children. For families, this is probably one of the best places to take kids in the area, thanks to the many different activities and the quality of the skiing lessons that they can get while they are here.
