Sad Plant - This is a term that is used to describe any type of hand plant where the rider is boning the front leg for the purpose of style.
Sandwich Construction - This is a term that is used to describe layers of materials that are layered on top of one another along with additional components for the purpose of torsion flex and sidewall strength patterning. Sandwich construction is used for the purpose of constructing a board that has different layers all combined together on top of one another.
Sato Flip - This is a halfpipe trick that was originally done by Rob Kingwill. Sato is Japanese for the word Sugar.
Scream - This is a term that is used to describe a hill that is exceptionally steep.
Seabelt - This is a term that is used to describe a situation where the front side is reaching across the body, grabbing the tail while boning the front leg.
Session - This is a term that is used to describe a skating period.
Shifty - This is a term that is used to describe a trick that does not involve grabbing, where the upper part of the torso as well as the lower body twist in opposite directions before returning to normal again.
Shovel - This is a term that is used to describe the snowboard's upward or lifted curved sections both at the tail and the tip of the board.
Sick - This is a term that is used to describe something that is big, cool, crazy or quite difficult. It is a slang term in snowboarding.
Side Cut - This is a term that is used to describe the curve that is built into the edges and the sidewalls of a snowboard for the purpose of enhancing its capabilities when it comes to turning. The purpose of the side cut is to be able to create a curve along the turning surface characteristic of the riding style of the particular board.
Side Wall - This is a term that is used to describe the area that exists between the base and the top sheet as well as above each of the edges of the snowboard. The side wall is responsible for holding materials such as the core from shifting about during the process of manufacturing as well as protecting them once the product is finished.
Sintered Base - This is a term that is used to describe a kind of polymer plastic that manufacturers compress into a much longer shape, setting it on a roller and then slicing it into base material sheets. This is a base material that is slightly harder and slightly more porous and is used on most performance grade snowboards.
Sketching - This is a term that is used to describe the act of a snowboarder riding precariously along and nearly falling.
