Snowboarding Glossary Continued

snowyTwin Tip - This is a term that is used to describe a variety of snowboard that is specifically designed for snowboarding freestyle. This type of snowboard has a tip and a tail that are identical, making it possible for the board to be ridden in both directions in a similar fashion.

Variable Flex - When the tip, the tail and the middle of a snowboard each have different amounts or degrees of flex. This term also describes varying the overall amount of flex on a snowboard from the tip of the board, to the middle of the board and then the tail of the board.

Variable Radius - This is a term that is used to describe a side cut type of design that is incorporating a change in the radius size all along the length of the snowboard. This also explains the process of adjusting a side cut design for the purpose of enhancing the board's characteristics while turning.

Vertical - This is a term that is used to describe the very top portion of a vertical wall within a half pipe, which makes it possible for a boarder to fly right up into the air rather than in or out of the pipe.

Vertically Laminated Wood Core - This is a term that is used to describe what is essentially the industry standard when it comes to wood core for snowboards. It involves strips of wood that range in thickness from 1/8 inch to 3/4 inch which are bonded together in a side by side manner and have joints running vertically. What this allows for is different types of woods to be used in each of the cores in order to optimize the performance characteristics for the snowboard.

Vultures
- This is a term that is used to describe crowds that gather at or near sections within a competition that are particularly dangerous.

Waist - This is a term that is used to describe the width measurement that is taken at the very narrowest part of the snowboard, which is close to the middle of the entire board's length.

Wall - This is a term that is used to describe any bank that is at least 90 degrees or more.

Wet Cat - This is a term that is used to describe the signature move by Todd Richard. This move entails an inverted aerial with the rider performing a 540 degree rotation while flipping. Then, there is an additional 360 rotation on the ground which is thrown in so that the complete rotation is 900 degrees total.

Wipeout - This is a term that is used to describe a crash of any sort while snowboarding.

Wood Core - This is a term that is used to describe the various types of wood that are used in order to provide the shape and the thickness for a snowboard.

Zonk - This is a term that is used to describe hitting a wall.
