Flute - A snow column that can be found on rocks and other terrain features as well as almost vertical slopes.
Free riding - This is the term for casual snowboarding that is done on any terrain type. There are no gates, half pipes, rules, or contests. This is all about having a good time.
Freestyle - While any snowboarding that includes tricks and other maneuvers can include freestyle, it is most often associated with the half pipe.
Fresh Fish Air - A stale fish performed from the backside.
Front Foot - The foot that is placed closest to the nose of the snowboard. For a regular footer this will be the left foot, and for a goofy footer this will be the right foot.
Front Hand - This is the hand that is closest to the snowboard's nose. For a regular footer this will be the left hand, and for a goofy footer this will be the right hand.
Front flip - This is a trick where the rider flips forward from a jump.
Front side Air - A trick where the rider makes a front side grab while in the air. The rider uses their rear hand to grab the board between the two bindings while their front leg is boned. This term also is used to describe any air made on a half pipe from the front side wall.
Front side Wall - The front side wall is the wall that will be in front of you when riding straight down the middle of a half pipe. Looking down from the top of the half pipe the right wall of the half pipe will be the front side wall for regular-footers, and for goofy-footers the wall to the left is the front side wall.
Gap - The space located between two objects of similar height which have a lower area between them. It also refers to the distance between the two objects.
Gay Twist - A half pipe trick with a grab that involves a 360 spin that is started from fakie.
Goofy Foot - What this means is to ride with your right foot in the forward position.
Grab - A trick done while in the air where the rider grabs the board with either one or both of their hands, and this can be done either front side or backside.
Grind - A trick involving a platform like a ledge or handrail where the rider rides the board over it with only the trucks making contact.
Haakon Flip - Named for the Norwegian Teje Haakonsen, the Haakon flip is similar to a switch rodeo but is done in a half pipe.
