Snowboarding Day 1
January 3rd, 2012 | Lessons, Snowboarding, Tips and Tricks
Snowboarding is a really excellent sport. It requires good physical fitness, but it really pays off in the end when you end up having tons of fun on the slopes all throughout the winter months. Before you ever jump on your snowboard and hit the slopes, however, it is important for you to understand what leads to being prepared. The following guide is intended to treat you as if this is your very first day on the slopes. Even if you have been out snowboarding before and feel like less of an amateur, you may still learn something new from what we have to say, so read this and take our advice to heart.
These steps are going to help you get started on your very first day of snowboarding. If there are any doubts in your mind about what you are setting out to do, then it may be wise for you to take a lesson or consult an instructor before you get started.
- First and foremost you are going to want to begin on flat ground with both of your feet properly strapped into place. If you are not properly affixed to your board, you could be putting yourself in serious risk of injury.
- Now you are going to want to practice your balance with a nifty balance exercise. What this entails is touching the front of the board and then the back of the board, the left side of the board and then the right, maintaining your balance the entire way through.
- Now you are going to want to practice getting up. Crouch down on your knees and then stand up. You may also want to try sitting down and then getting back up. This is a harder way to get up, but is also quite useful in situations where you fall down and need to get right back up again.
- Now you should get on flat ground, strapping only a single foot in and walking around for a bit. Keep all of your weight on your front foot.
- Put your front foot in and then try to change directions while you are sliding. Point your hand in the direction that you would like to go in, and change into that direction for practice.
- Practice getting on the lift, because this is an important part about snowboarding. Make sure that you watch other people to see how they do it. When you get off, you should be learning forward.
- You also need to practice knowing how to stop yourself. With both of your feet strapped in, you should be sliding down the hill on your edge, facing the hill, and then flipping yourself over and doing it while you are facing away from the hill on your way down.
