Another one of the skills that you should be capable of doing before progressing in your snowboarding training is known as gliding. Gliding is a basic movement that is going to help you become more comfortable when it comes to shifting your weight in a forward motion as well as while working to gain control on your snowboard.
This particular technique is also going to be really helpful when it comes to riding on a chairlift. It will make it possible for you to unload from any chairlift with control if you are capable of turning out from a glide. As soon as you are finally capable of standing tall on your board while gliding down along an incline, then you will be much more ready to handle chair lifts.
Step #1: The first thing you are going to want to do is to locate a gentle slope that has a little traffic as possible. Make sure that you are maintaining your balance while you are standing. You can keep yourself in the upright position by spreading your arms just a little bit. As soon as you are prepared to go, and as soon as the coast has been cleared, you can take your back foot out of your snowboard binding and place it just in front of the binding.
Step #2: Now what you are going to want to do next is to lean forward so that you will be able to begin moving down the hill. You should be pointing your toes in a downward angle in order to move yourself forward, and you should be shifting your weight to the back whenever you want to stop or to slow yourself down.
You are going to want to make sure that you are always looking ahead at wherever you are planning to go rather than looking down or in the direction of your snowboard. If you look in the direction where you want to go, then you will be able to guide yourself in the right direction. If you're looking to the side, down or at your snowboard, what you are going to end up doing is steering yourself in the wrong direction and getting hurt as a result.
Moving along the slope when you only have one of your feet attached to your snowboard is something that can be relatively exhausting, but what you are going to find is that it is capable of being useful in a variety of different ways. You want to make sure that you practice and that you are completely comfortable when it comes to doing straight glides before you try out other exercises and techniques in snowboarding. If you don't know how to do this technique yet, now is a good time to learn, but make sure that you are practicing in a safe place or with the help of an instructor for the best results.
