Snow Summit Ski Resort is located in: Big Bear Lake, CA

About the Resort:
If you love Alpine skiing, this is the resort to visit. Dedicated almost entirely to this type of skiing, the resort offers a great chance to get away from it all and enjoy the good life. Although snowboarders and regular skiers are allowed, they are asked to stay to the west side of the mountain, which accounts for about 10% of the trails. This resort is definitely serious about alpine skiing and it may not be suitable for those that are interested in other disciplines.
What You Need to Know:
As mentioned above, they are pretty strict about the types of skiing and snow fun that are allowed. This makes it a little less kid friendly, unless your children are already accomplished alpine skiers. The resort opens up in the last few days of Novembers and continues to run through April. The fees are reasonable considering the quality of the facilities.
Not much manufactured snow can be found here and in fact they have a live snow guarantee. For those that are snow purists, this is a very good place to visit. We found that the facilities were top notch, the food was excellent and the rooms were great. However, it would be nice to see them be just a little friendlier towards beginners.
Tips for Beginners:
Only 10% of the trails here are suitable for beginners and this is one of the few resorts in the area that actually caters to advanced skiers. If you are serious about learning alpine skiing, this is probably the best place to learn. However, if you’re completely new to the sport and not sure if this is the discipline you want to try, you may want to take lessons elsewhere.
Lessons are available, and instead of being group based, they are more one-on-one. Special attention is paid to teaching traditional skiing skills and many consider the methods used to be a bit old fashioned.

How to Get There:
State Hwy 330 / Hwy 18 through Running Springs is the best route, but can be crowded on weekends and holidays.
Highway 38 through Redlands is the scenic route and is a little less congested.
Highway 18 through the Lucerne Valley, the longest route, but safer during winter due to less snowfall. Very low traffic levels.
