Skiing with Family

When you decide to go on a skiing or snowboarding vacation with your kids, it may feel as if time has simply flown by, and too much time is wasted that should have been enjoyed on the slopes. Here are five simple and helpful tips for maximizing the amount of time for skiing while still maximizing your quality time with your family during your snow vacation.

1 - Enroll your children in a ski school or a ski clinic that caters specifically to children.

The only time that you can really afford to skip this step is if your children are older and have friends along on the trip that they can spend time with. Otherwise, putting your children in a ski instruction course will help them make friends which will keep them busy during the trip and give you some free time in the process. Most children get a lot out of taking skiing and snowboarding lessons, as they can learn a lot and make some friends along the way.

2 - Keep in mind that your kids are probably going to crash and burn throughout the trip.

Changing altitudes, changing time zones, donning all kinds of gear, and then the skiing and snowboarding itself can become quite overwhelming for a kid that is not used to it. Your little ones may become incredibly exhausted along the way, so prepare to tuck them in frequently throughout the trip to keep their energy up. You may want to plan ahead for stuff like this to make sure that no important plans are ruined during the vacation.

3 - If you want some free time for skiing and snowboarding, do not be afraid to hire in a babysitter.

Most hotels and ski resorts come equipped with a list of reliable people to choose from. Don't be afraid to have some alone time withy our spouse, or to do something special for yourself. Get away from your crazy little ones every once in a while, because everyone needs breathing room once in a while.

4 - Find activities near by that do not involve skiing, and spend at least a day enjoying off slope activities.

For every 3 days that you visit you should have a non ski day that you can enjoy, including snowshoe hiking, making snow forts, building snowmen, taking slay rides, visiting tourist attractions and scenic attractions and taking pictures to get the most out of your vacation. Skiing is by far not the only thing that you can do on a ski vacation.

5 - Scope out the recreation center in the area.

Many offer swimming pools, water slides, wave pools and water games, climbing walls and other unique activities that you can partake in with your family. Or leave your kids in daycare and take a spinning class or a spa day with your spouse.

Diamond Peak is a great place for families as well because all runs filter into the base area, so you’re more likely to find your loved ones at the end of the day. Also, kids love to go swimming in the pool at the Incline Village Recreation Center 10 minutes down the road from Diamond Peak (and they offer massages, too!)
