Okay guys, it's official: The ski season is upon us. Ski resorts all over the continent are looking for ways to boost their appeal by coming up with a bumper crop of brand new terrain and lifts along with other rides and attractions. For your skiing and sliding pleasure, here are a some of the best tickets worth riding.
1 - Whistler Blackcomb
Of course the largest ski resort in all of North America needs to do something spectacular. Whistler Blackcomb is planning to unveil the Peak 2 Peak gondola on December 12. This is a valley spanning lift that is intended to link the two different mountains from twin terminals that are resting nearly 4,000 feet over the Whistler Village. The Peak 2 Peak gondola ride travels over a total of 2.7 miles in only 11 minutes. This was a $53 million dollar project, featuring 28-persona cabins that can soar up to 1,427 feet over the ground, eliminating the need for visitors to ski down to the valley floor in order to ride up to the other mountain.
2 -Revelstoke Mountain Resort
One of the newest resorts in North America, Revelstoke Mountain Resort in British Columbia is well on its way to becoming one of the largest North American resorts as well. It just opened in 2007 and offered a high speed quad chair and a gondola, but now this resort has expanded to add another high speed quad chair as well as upping its skiable terrain to include more than a total of 3,000 acres. What may be even more significant is the fact that the resort now claims to feature the greatest vertical drop in all of North America; a drop of 5,620 feet.
3 -Bridger Bowl
Any powderhound on his or her way to Montana will enjoy the Bridger Bowl and their newly built Schlasman's chair which climbs as high as 1,700 vertical feet over 300 acres of new terrain which spans beyond Pierre's Knob, providing the first public lift in the area, especially to the Legendary Ridge.
4 - Jackson Hole
Jackson Hole in Wyoming is opening the successor to the big red box on December 20. This old tram closed down in 2006 after more than 40 years worth of service. The new tram is going to travel the same route, climbing as high as 4,319 vertical feet, and it goes a little faster and caries nearly twice as many passengers, making it a big improvement over the old Tram.
5 - The Telluride Ski Resort
The Telluride Ski Resort is well known for its stunning scenery, and this year it is offering a brand new view by opening the Revelation Bowl, a northeast facing basin offering open slopes and 800 vertical feet worth of terrain for advanced and expert snowhounds.
