Renting Ski Equipment
May 10th, 2010 | Clothing, Skiing, Skis
When you are just getting started in skiing, or when you are trying to figure out whether or not this is the right type of sport for you, then it is definitely going to make sense for you to rent the ski equipment that you need in order to get the most out of what the mountain has to offer. Once you have become sure that you are going to spend as much time as you possibly can on the slopes, actually justifying the act of buying ski equipment, then that is when it would be best for you to really get into investing in your own personal ski gear.
Where should I rent my ski gear?
There are actually a couple of different options available to you when it comes to renting ski gear and ski equipment. Many ski shops in the local area are going to rent out equipment in packages for beginners. One advantage that comes with the act of renting on a local basis is that you are going to be able to pick the equipment up ahead of time, avoid having to wait in line at the ski shop for the resort. On the other hand, if you are renting your equipment from the resort itself, you may also even be able to store your equipment with them during the day or overnight for a nominal fee or possibly even for free depending on the resort.
What should I rent?
Most of the rental packages that are offered for skiing are going to include the appropriate skis, the appropriate boots and the appropriate ski poles. You should be able to choose between skis intended for beginners and those that are intended for performance. There are also generally special packages that are made available for younger skiers. You may also be able to rent a helmet for an additional charge. This is an extra expense but it is well worthwhile when you consider the safety implications.
Make sure that you are keeping in mind that when you sign up for ski lessons, the equipment is generally included for free in the price, and you can use it all day, even after your lesson, meaning that you are not going to need to rent any equipment in addition to what is already provided to you.
Here is a list of some of the ski equipment that will be made available for you to rent:
- Appropriate skis,
- Appropriate ski boots,
- Appropriate ski poles,
- Appropriate helmet (optional).
Generally, keep in mind that you can either rent a ski equipment package or you can rent the items that you need on an individual basis. For example, you can get a full set of equipment, or just the skis, or just the boots depending on your needs and the options that the resort provides. Most packages do not include helmets or poles, so you should plan on bringing enough money to accommodate these additional charges if you so choose.
