Atomic Crimson TI 128/86/114
May 26th, 2010 | Product Reviews, Skis, Snow
If you do a lot of different skiing, chances are you’ve spent quite a bit of money on many different kinds of skis. Unfortunately, there are few skis on the market that can be considered to be “all purpose” and even these will have their shortcomings. Whether you like to mix up Nordic skiing with regular downhill, or you are trying to find a ski that will simply get you down the mountain regardless of your discipline, shopping for the ultimate all purpose ski is no easy task.
The main issue behind this problem is that different kinds of powder call for different kinds of skis. Cross country skis are typically quite narrow, while powder skiing calls for what are known as fat skis. Trying to find the middle ground in there has not been easy for manufacturers. To complicate this issue, the few all purpose skis that are available are usually designed for those that are already quite proficient at skiing, and prefer to go fast. If you’re a beginner looking to save money by getting one pair of skis that will get the job done for a variety of different uses, it’s going to be very difficult to find what you’re looking for.
The Atomic Crimson TI is a new entry on the market that is striving to be a do it all type of ski. Right off the bat, the flashy design and bright colors attract the eye, as well as the overall width of the ski. They are perfect for many different disciplines and professionals will be able to get up to speed in no time at all. In fact, many of the pro athletes that use these skis are known for the high rates they can get up to. The skis are nice and fat, but they are more than capable of handling different kinds of powder and terrain.
We highly recommend the Atomic Crimson TI. They do have a few issues, and the price is a little high. However, they are as close to a truly all purpose ski that we have seen in some time and they are suitable for a wider variety of skiers than most. Granted, professionals are probably going to get the most out of them, but overall, if you’re looking for a solid ski that will get you down the mountain in a variety of ways, this is probably the best you’re going to be able to find.
When you look at the price as though you won’t have to buy several different sets of skis, it immediately gets more reasonable. Most stores retail them for less than $800, but with some careful searching, you can probably get a much better deal. You may even want to pick up a used pair online or at your local ski shop to give them a try. Many shops will let you demo them first, and that’s a great way to see if these skis are right for you.
