About the Resort:
Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort is located in the gorgeous Sierras and this is definitely one of the nicest places to ski in the area. This is an incredibly large resort and overcrowding is never a problem, even at the peak of the season. The area is sheltered by Mt. Whitney, so the temperatures and windchill are never terrible. We found the facilities here to be way above par and the restaurant located on site is terrific. Overall, this is a great resort to spend a week, or a weekend, and to bring friends, or the entire family.
What You Need to Know:
With more than 400 inches of snowfall annually, having plenty of good powder is never a problem. On years where this dips below average, the resort does supplement the runs with manufactured snow. There are around 300 sunny days a year at this location, so you are pretty much guaranteed a great vacation if you're planning on staying here.
The resort opens up for business in early November and stays open until the last day in May. That's one of the longest seasons for ski resorts and gives you plenty of opportunities for fun throughout almost half of the year. The entire resort encompasses more than 3500 acres and there are currently 32 lifts in operation. They move around 50000 people an hour.
Tips for Beginners:
Out of the numerous trails at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort, 25% are dedicated to beginners. Most are gentle and will give you more than enough opportunity to get used to skiing and learn some new skills. Lessons are provided right at the resort numerous times throughout the day, and special pricing is available for those that need instruction and rental gear.
This resort has some of the best instructors we've ever come across and you'll find them patient and caring. The runs are all patrolled, making this one of the safest places to learn how to ski.
