Killington Resort is the largest ski resort in the northeast US, with a large variety of terrain types to keep skiers and snowboarders busy throughout the season. December 13th of this year marks the 50th anniversary of the slopes initial opening back in 1958. In celebration, the resort has spent over 8 million dollars on slope improvements.

A single lift ticket will give you access to 33 lifts leading to 200 trails, all across the 4200 foot high peak. There are over a hundred properties available, from a first class resort, to cozy little country inns. There are also town homes and condominiums available, as well as single family homes.

The mountain is maintained by a fleet of 18 vehicles, which treat and groom over half of the mountain every night. With 250 inches of snow a year, the slopes will provide an excellent experience every day of the season.

What You Need to Know -

The resorts season starts November 14th, 2008 and ends April 19th, 2009. Over the course of the year, the resort will receive on average just about 21 feet of snow. Across 1200 acres, there are 191 trails spread about roughly evenly from green, blue and single black difficulties. The lifts run at a capacity of 52,000 guests an hour.

Tips for Beginners -

Killington resort offers a large number of lessons for both its junior guests and its adult guests. For the juniors, there are five daily lesson programs of varying difficulty, as well as a season long camp program for young skiers of all ages. These programs provide young skiers the chance to learn new skills or improve old ones. The minimum requirement regarding the kids skill level is that they be able to get on the lift by themselves.

Adult programs are available on a one on one basis or as part of a group. Daily group lessons will instruct skiers of any skill level in the techniques of the sport. There are beginners, intermediate and advance classes, so skiers of any level will find benefit. There are also special classes for jump practice, and even a season camp program for adult learners.
