June Mountain Ski Area is located in: June Lake, CA

About the Resort:
June Mountain is one of the best kept secrets when it comes to skiing California and although it's never overcrowded, throughout the years they have managed to build up some very happy repeat guests. It may not be the flashiest resort in the world, but it does have some of the best runs and you'll find more than enough to keep you busy during your stay here. There is lodging available on site and the management always goes the extra mile to make sure that guests are happy during their stay.
What You Need to Know:
The resort encompasses around 500 acres, and there are currently 35 trails in operation. The runs are serviced by 7 lifts that are capable of moving more than 10,000 people an hour, so it is definitely rare to end up waiting for very long here. The resort opens for business in mid-December and stays open through mid-April. The usual hours of operation are from 9am to 4pm, but a few of the lifts open up as early as 7:30 in the morning.
The average snowfall here is around 250 inches, and they do supplement this with manufactured snow occasionally to make sure that the runs are in top notch shape. We found everything to be very well groomed during our stay and were quite pleased with the shape of the trails, as well as a our lodging.
Tips for Beginners:
Approximately 20% of the trails here are suitable for beginners and lessons are provided throughout the day. This is a great mountain for kids to learn the basics on and they'll have plenty of opportunities to test out their new skills during their stay. In addition to regular ski lessons, you can also take snowboarding lessons while you're here.
You can rent all the gear you need here and the management frequently runs specials that include lift tickets, your gear and the cost of lessons. We found the lift fees to be quite low considering the quality of the establishment and the amount of service that the staff provides. Overall, if you're looking for some quality ski instruction in a fun environment that is not intimidating, this is a great place to start. Even if you're not yet a fan of snowboarding, we highly recommend taking at least one lesson - they may just change your mind.
