Finding the Snow for Skiing in the Spring

skkiiWhen it comes to skiing in the spring, we need to be able to find the snow, no matter what the costs are. Before we head out to the slopes to participate in spring skiing, we are going to have to find the snow. A quick check at certain websites on the internet will give us some accurate information about what ski resorts are open, and perhaps even more importantly, where the good snow is. Make sure to check back to the internet often for more advice, because during the spring season it is not uncommon for resorts to begin cutting their hours back. Some of these ski resorts continue to stay open every single day, while other ones may only open for a couple weekdays out of the week and then the weekends, and some others will only open up on the weekends.

In these hard economic times, as well as in seasons where snow is sparse, the ski resorts are uncomfortable forced to become more economical, and sometimes what this results in is not having enough money. Unfortunately, this means that some ski resorts simply are not going to be able to be open as much as they had planned. One of the best things that you can do is to drop a phone call into the resort ahead of time to make sure that they are indeed still open, as this is going to save you a lot of frustration if you arrive to find out that there are no lifts that are currently running.

Once you have found a few ski resorts that are currently open for the spring skiing season, you are probably going to want the check the website for the resort to find out about grooming trails and what trails are open so that you can get a fuller idea about the type of terrain that you are going to have access to. If you are a family made up of beginner skiers and intermediate skiers, then you are obviously not going to want to end up skiing in an area where the only runs that are still open happen to be black diamond runs.

In this day and age, you are going to be pretty much able to trust resorts in order to tell you the truth regarding what types of terrain are open as well as what the current conditions are. A few resorts may exaggerate the amount of snowfall or stack snowflakes, but they are generally looking for your repeat business and so they are generally going to be good about giving you the basic information that you need.

Another excellent tip is to check out the web cam for the ski resort if they host one on their website. This will give you a good idea of what the snow and terrain are like before you leave home, which is an excellent feature to have.
