About the Resort:

There aren’t many resorts in the Boulder area, but this is one of the best. Actually located in Nederland, but easily accessible from many points across the state, this resort is quickly becoming quite popular. Their rates are pretty reasonable and we found the powder to be exceptional. Even though the area gets around 300 inches of snow a year, the resort makes a bunch on their own to ensure you’re always going to have a great experience on the runs. The staff is helpful and this is a great place to take the family.

What You Need to Know:

The season opens a bit late here and closes a little early, running from Mid-November to the first part of April. That’s not much time to a lot of skiing in, unless you live nearby. However, we found that the resort does pack them in and move them along. They have numerous lifts and move around 8,000 people an hour, which is pretty standard for a resort that is this size.

There are 53 trails currently in operation, spread out over 680 acres, so you won’t be bumping elbows with anyone. The facilities are well set up and they keep the trails patrolled and in excellent condition. We found it to be one of the nicest resorts we’ve been to in a while and even though it’s a little small in some ways, it’s well worth the trip.

The cross country center brings in a lot of people each year, and even if you’ve never tried this before, we highly recommend it. You’ll be able to get a great crash course in cross country skiing amidst some of the most beautiful country in Colorado. It is also a place that is very friendly to snowboarders and even though there are no halfpipes, the resort offers four different terrain parks. Most only offer two, so if you love to board, this is the place to do it.

Tips for Beginners:

You’ll find out 20% of the trails here are suitable for beginners and the only one you’ll really want to avoid is Moose Glades. This resort is geared a little more towards intermediate and advanced skiers, but they still have a very good instructional program. Lessons are frequently held throughout the day and they do offer special discounts and inclusive packages with gear.

The kids lessons here are among the best we’ve found and they will even teach youngsters as young as three. They offer instruction in numerous disciplines, including downhill, alpine and cross country. Snowboarding lessons are also available and the techniques taught in all of their classes are solid and will pay off.
