About the Resort:

Donner Ski Ranch is known as one of the finest ski resorts in the Norden, CA area and around Lake Tahoe. This resort first opened its doors in 1937, with a simple slope and a tow rope, and grew very quickly into one of the most popular destinations in the area. They are family owned and operated and the minute you arrive, you can tell that the staff and the management truly cares about their visitors and the entire facility. This is a very well managed ski resort, and everything is incredibly well maintained and groomed on a consistent basis.

What You Need to Know:

There are a total of 52 runs at Donner Ski Ranch, and they are served by 6 chair lifts. The lifts run pretty quickly, so there is not a problem with overcrowding or long wait times. The longest run on the resort is over one mile, and there are some truly great places to really indulge your passion for skiing or snowboarding. We had a lot of fun during our stay here, and will definitely return again. The area gets quite a bit of snow, and the trails are always covered in good powder.

The main lodge is open from 8am to 4pm, and the trails open up at 9am. The entire resort stretches out over 460 acres, and there is plenty of room to enjoy yourself and explore new trails.

Tips for Beginners:

Only 25% of the trails here are devoted to beginners, but they make good use of the facility. There are plenty of trainers on staff and lessons are held throughout the day. We found that they were very patient, especially with children and this is one of the best places to learn good skiing fundamentals in a nice environment.

The easiest runs are located at the base of the mountain and the resort map that is provided will show you exactly where to go. Most of the beginner slopes are very gentle and you'll be able to perfect your form and still have fun. Even though these easier slopes are not the most hair-raising slopes in the world, they are still quite a lot of fun to traverse.
