About the Resort:
This was the site of the first X games, and that should tell you all that you need to know about the terrain you'll be facing here. There are 550 acres to play in and many of the trails are truly hair raising. Snowboarders are very welcome here and there is some fantastic terrain for that sport right here.
What You Need to Know:
If you do board, you'll find the two halfpipes and three terrain parks more than sufficient to have fun in. There are also some really great runs here and they do a great job of keeping everything well groomed. They do make about 25% of the snow to ensure that all of the trails are at top condition, regardless of the conditions.
There are numerous lifts here that move around 20k people an hour, so you won't be waiting in line for long. This is an incredibly popular resort however, thanks in a large part to the exposure they've gotten with the X games and it can be a bit crowded during peak holiday periods. However, it is well worth the trip since there are few places like this in North America that offer this level of skiing.
If you get sick of skiing, you can go snowmobiling, ice skating or even give cross country skiing a try, all right here in one place. This is a great family resort and there is more than enough to do to keep everyone occupied.
Tips for Beginners:
This is actually a very beginner friendly resort. Out of the 121 trails you'll find about 23% that are suited for beginners, with a little more than 50% for intermediate skiers. The rest are for advanced and very advanced skiers. By far, the one run you must avoid as a beginner is the Rambo - it has a 56 degree drop, so we do not recommend this one if you are not an advanced skier.
That said, there are numerous lessons held throughout the day and we found the instructors to be very good. This is a popular resort, so you're assured of having it attract some of today's best pro's. That pays off when it comes to lessons and you'll be learning from some of the best in the sport.
There is a new terrain park here that is designed for kids and beginners that want to try their hand (or feet) at snowboarding. This is a great place to learn the basics in a safe environment and there are also plenty of lessons for this sport here. There is a more advanced terrain park but we highly recommend starting off at the easy one first.
