Checklist for Skiing Gear
May 9th, 2010 | Clothing, Skiing, Skis
The following list is a list of the equipment, the gear and the clothing that you are going to need in order to have a successful day on the slopes. If this is your first ever ski trip, then you may want to consider renting your skis and your boots. There is no real reason to invest in brand new expensive skiing equipment until you are sure that this is the right sport for you to pursue. Always make sure that you have the appropriate type of clothing, which is clothing that will keep your dry and warm at all times.
Skiing Equipment and Gear - In this category, you need to make sure that you have skis, ski boots and a ski boot bag, a ski bag or a duffel bag to carry your gear in, goggles and the proper helmet, a ski carrier and ski poles, a ski bag and ski lock, walkie talkies in case of emergency, sunglasses and any other basic gear that you think you may end up needing.
Skiing Clothing - In this category, you may need any of the following pieces of ski clothing depending on your gender and your individual skiing needs. You may need women's gloves or mittens or men's gloves or mittens, making sure to bring two pairs incase one happens to get wet, base layer clothing including tops as well as bottoms, a turtleneck sweater, a sweater or a fleece, ski socks as well as fleece socks with at least two pairs, ski pants and ski jacket, both of which should be insulated as well as waterproof for the best results, a neck gaiter so that your neck will be kept warm, and a hat, helmet liner or headband to keep your head warm.
Tip - If you are dressing in layers, then you can always take a layer off if you end up getting hot. It is much harder to add more layers later when you are cold than to take them off when you are warm.
Ski Accessories - You should have sunscreen, wind block, lip balm and hand and foot warmers on your person at all times. All of these things will come quite in handy during your ski vacation.
It is important to understand the value of having the right ski equipment for your vacation and your first trek up the mountain. It will be too late to rectify the situation later if you come unprepared and suddenly find yourself needing specific pieces of equipment, additional layers of clothing or something as silly as lip balm. It is much smarter to come prepared and not end up needing something than to need it without having it at your disposal. Keep this in mind when you are packing for your first ski vacation and you will be just fine.
