Website: http://www.eldora.com/

About the Resort:

There aren’t many resorts in the Boulder area, but this is one of the best. Actually located in Nederland, but easily accessible from many points across the state, this resort is quickly becoming quite popular. Their rates are pretty reasonable and we found the powder to be exceptional. Even though the area gets around 300 inches of snow a year, the resort makes a bunch on their own to ensure you’re always going to have a great experience on the runs. The staff is helpful and this is a great place to take the family.

What You Need to Know:

The season opens a bit late here and closes a little early, running from Mid-November to the first part of April. That’s not much time to a lot of skiing in, unless you live nearby. However, we found that the resort does pack them in and move them along. They have numerous lifts and move around 8,000 people an hour, which is pretty standard for a resort that is this size.

There are 53 trails currently in operation, spread out over 680 acres, so you won’t be bumping elbows with anyone. The facilities are well set up and they keep the trails patrolled and in excellent condition. We found it to be one of the nicest resorts we’ve been to in a while and even though it’s a little small in some ways, it’s well worth the trip.

The cross country center brings in a lot of people each year, and even if you’ve never tried this before, we highly recommend it. You’ll be able to get a great crash course in cross country skiing amidst some of the most beautiful country in Colorado. It is also a place that is very friendly to snowboarders and even though there are no halfpipes, the resort offers four different terrain parks. Most only offer two, so if you love to board, this is the place to do it.

Tips for Beginners:

You’ll find out 20% of the trails here are suitable for beginners and the only one you’ll really want to avoid is Moose Glades. This resort is geared a little more towards intermediate and advanced skiers, but they still have a very good instructional program. Lessons are frequently held throughout the day and they do offer special discounts and inclusive packages with gear.

The kids lessons here are among the best we’ve found and they will even teach youngsters as young as three. They offer instruction in numerous disciplines, including downhill, alpine and cross country. Snowboarding lessons are also available and the techniques taught in all of their classes are solid and will pay off.

Among the most popular of all ski resorts in the entire world you are going to find numerous Denver-area ski resorts. The most commonly heard of Colorado ski resorts are Aspen and Vail, though there are numerous other ones to choose from. It does not matter whether you have skied before in the past or not, or if hiking or perhaps snowboarding is more your thing - There is something for everyone at all of this unique and wonderful skiing and snowboarding resorts. This is exactly why so many ski resorts have become popular as family vacation, class trips and other group vacations, because adults and children alike can enjoy skiing, snowboarding and other snow activities, they can take lessons together, they can enjoy the shopping and the sight seeing and everything else that these Colorado ski resorts have to offer, including fine dining for example.

If you aren't really interested in driving, or if you are interested in relaxing and letting someone do the work for you, then that really isn't a problem. Denver International Airport is offering a shuttle service that goes to and from the airport and most of the resorts in the area, and there is also transportation throughout much of the rest of the city itself, and in Denver you are going to find a wide variety of night clubs, specialty shopping outlets, bars, museums and even the zoo.

In the Colorado area, one of the most well known resorts is Aspen. Aspen offers a wide variety of different slopes that range from beginner difficulty to expert difficulty, meaning that you do not have to worry about whether or not you are going to find the right experience for your needs, whether they are gentle or thrilling. Aspen is much, much more than simply being a skiing resort, however, as it is also a popular destination for banquets, weddings and a host of other specialty occasions as well.

If you are looking for the closest ski resort to the city of Denver, then the Loveland Area is the way to go. It offers a wide variety of terrific slopes that are suitable for a wide variety of experience levels. There is also, once again, a direct shuttle that goes to and from the Denver airport, meaning that you can get around as needed.

Even if you are not exactly into skiing, there are still a wide variety of other things that you can partake of in the area including hiking, relaxing, snowboarding and many other activities as well. You can simply take in all of the beautiful scenery if you like, or watch the skiers and snowboarders enjoy themselves as well. Booking a stay in a Colorado ski resort is simple and can open up a wealth of new activities for you to take advantage of.

Are you looking for a top notch ski resort in the Denver area? Keep reading for information on some of the best skiing that the Denver area has to offer.

If you are looking for one of the closest area ski resorts to the city of Denver, then one of the best bets is going to be the Loveland ski area. The Loveland Ski area ropes in a beautiful 400 inches worth of snowfall every single year like clockwork, and as a result it has become extremely popular among not only locals but also visitors that come from all over the world. When you consider all of the beautiful and fluffy white snow, the awesome slopes for skiing and snowboarding and all of the natural beauty that covers this unique area, is there really anything else that you could possibly be asking for in terms of ski resort amenities out here?

Whether you are a seasoned skier or snowboarder or a rank novice heading out for the first time, Denver ski resorts have suitable areas to meet every taste. The Loveland resort is approximately 53 miles out of Denver, located in Arapaho National Forest. If you want to know the best places to go, try tagging along with some locals, as they know them all!

One thousand three hundred and sixty five acres are provided by the resort, all of which are skiable. Ranked 10th among the largest Denver resorts catering to skiers, the ski season starts around late October, which is generally much earlier than most other US ski resorts. Man made snow is used to provide an eighteen inch base, with which fresh coverage is soon provided by natural snow fall. Use of a man made base minimizes the chance of ice patches on the runs.

Have you always wanted to bask in the snowy glory of the Rocky Mountains? You will find that Denver’s ski resorts will perfectly fulfill your dream. If you are not a very experienced skier or snowboarder, then Loveland would be a great place to start. They have mild trails South of the resort that are perfect for both the beginner and the intermediately skilled, while the North side offers much more aggressive routes for the seasoned thrill-seekers.

For those who are thrill seekers, the Black Diamond and Double Black Diamond runs will provide quite the exhilarating ski ride, while the intermediate skiers will also find themselves ideally challenged. For a map with directions to the resort, check the Loveland site online. Many different ski programs are offered at the resort for kids to adults, with the teen crowd being encouraged to try out snowboarding. We also have an All Terrain/All Conditions clinic for those with advanced technique, and lastly we have a barbecue at the Basin Deck for enjoying a mouthwatering experience after a hard day of skiing.

About the Resort -

Winter Park Resort offers an outstanding peak elevation of 12,060 with vertical heights reaching 3,060 feet. Winter Park Resort is spread across four different mountains and over 3,000 acres worth of terrain, offering some of the absolute best that skiing has to offer in Colorado. More than 354 inches of snowfall fall on Winter Park Resort every year. Here you will find groomed trails designed for beginners and steeps and bumps dedicated to the expert skiers and snowboarders. The wilder side of the mountain is Mary Jane, which is regularly ranked as the #1 mountain in bumps according to Skiing Magazine.

What You Need to Know -

The Winter Park Resort is based on five seasons, beginning in November and running until mid to late April. Winter Park easily experiences 350 or more inches of snow every year, and relies very little on artificial powder. There is 8 percent green terrain, 36 percent blue trail, 53 black trail and 3 percent double diamond black terrain, with a total of 145 different trails for you to explore that range significantly from simple and comfortable to completely insane. The longest run is 8,208 meters or 26,928 feet, and the toughest trail is known as the Chutes. There is also plenty of room for snowboarding, back country skiing and numerous other activities. No matter what your experience level is, or your age level for that matter, the Winter Park Resort has plenty to offer in the way of excitement and adventure.

Tips for Beginners -

The Winter Park Resort offers adult class lessons for groups and private lessons as well, both of which provide unique learning experiences including snow bike lessons, family privates, last tracks, first tracks, specialty clinics and much more. Child care is offered on site for children aged two months to five years old, and anyone older than this can participate in the classes and lessons.

Fees -

The lift prices at the Winter Park Resort are determined based on five different season periods. The first is the early period, which runs from the second week of November until the third week of November. The Pre-Holiday reason is the second period, which runs from the third week in November until the third week of December. The holiday reason runs from the third week of December until the end of the first week in January, and the regular season period runs from the end of the first week in January until the last day of March. Finally the late season is the period that runs from the last day of March until the second week of April, or longer should the snow happen to last beyond this date. The cost for a lift ticket will range significantly between $168 and $525 depending on three factors: Your age, the current season, and how many days you intend to stay at the resort.

About the Resort:

Skiing the slopes of the Telluride Ski Resort is just about the same as skiing the naked, raw slopes of a natural mountain. There is a historic charm here that is accompanied by the natural beauty and world class skiing that is available. The peaks stand tall at 14 thousand feet. The mountain, pure white from frequent powdering, offers courses of all difficulty levels for riders of all experience levels. The town of Telluride is untouched from it's nineteenth century days, nestled in a box canyon. The other side of the mountain shows the ski village Mountain. The Mountain Village is inspired by European sources and is home to numerous exciting activities worth experiencing, including upscale shopping, food and lodges as well.

What You Need to Know:

The peaks that you will find at the Telluride Ski Resort can easily reach as high as over 3500 feet tall at a peak elevation of 12,260 feet. The peak of the mountain receives over 300 inches of snow a year with only about 15 percent of the mountain snow being created artificially every year as a supplement. The large expanse of the mountain covers more than 1,700 acres worth of beautiful Colorado countryside. There are 92 different ski trails, with difficulties ranging from the greens at 24 percent, Blues at 38 percent and difficult Black Diamonds at 38 percent. No matter what skill level you possess, there are certainly plenty of different trails to take advantage of so that you never become bored. The large number of ski trails requires a wide selection of different ski lifts for operations, and the Telluride Ski Resort has the capacity to handle upwards of 21,200 people at a time.

Tips for Beginners:

The Telluride resort day school covers the finer points of skiing and snowboarding down the slopes of the mountain side. If you are looking for assistance in learning the basics when it comes to skiing or snowboarding at Telluride, then make sure to see what the assistance classes can offer you in the Telluride resort day school. The classes are staffed by highly trained individuals, including a highly respected, gold medal Olympic medalist, Jonny Moseley. Mr. Moseley is the "Ambassador of Skiing" at the Telluride Ski Resort. One of the programs that is available is a three day skiing camp for more intermediate and expert skiers.

Recently new trails were built for the enjoyment of a new black diamond run that goes by the name of Casanova Glade, as well as a new double black diamond run in the extreme area. This expands the resort's trail offering to a glorious 68 trails, with 20 percent green circle, 55 percent blue square, 20 percent black diamond and 5 percent double black diamond.
Website: http://www.skicb.com/

About the Resort:

This was the site of the first X games, and that should tell you all that you need to know about the terrain you'll be facing here. There are 550 acres to play in and many of the trails are truly hair raising. Snowboarders are very welcome here and there is some fantastic terrain for that sport right here.

What You Need to Know:

If you do board, you'll find the two halfpipes and three terrain parks more than sufficient to have fun in. There are also some really great runs here and they do a great job of keeping everything well groomed. They do make about 25% of the snow to ensure that all of the trails are at top condition, regardless of the conditions.

There are numerous lifts here that move around 20k people an hour, so you won't be waiting in line for long. This is an incredibly popular resort however, thanks in a large part to the exposure they've gotten with the X games and it can be a bit crowded during peak holiday periods. However, it is well worth the trip since there are few places like this in North America that offer this level of skiing.

If you get sick of skiing, you can go snowmobiling, ice skating or even give cross country skiing a try, all right here in one place. This is a great family resort and there is more than enough to do to keep everyone occupied.

Tips for Beginners:

This is actually a very beginner friendly resort. Out of the 121 trails you'll find about 23% that are suited for beginners, with a little more than 50% for intermediate skiers. The rest are for advanced and very advanced skiers. By far, the one run you must avoid as a beginner is the Rambo - it has a 56 degree drop, so we do not recommend this one if you are not an advanced skier.

That said, there are numerous lessons held throughout the day and we found the instructors to be very good. This is a popular resort, so you're assured of having it attract some of today's best pro's. That pays off when it comes to lessons and you'll be learning from some of the best in the sport.

There is a new terrain park here that is designed for kids and beginners that want to try their hand (or feet) at snowboarding. This is a great place to learn the basics in a safe environment and there are also plenty of lessons for this sport here. There is a more advanced terrain park but we highly recommend starting off at the easy one first.

Website: http://www.durangomountainresort.com/

About the Resort:

This is a historic area that is home to some of the best skiing terrain in the world. Forget about gentle slopes - this resort is home to trademark benching, rolling and exhilarating terrain. The resort covers more than 1200 acres and the management has done a great job of making sure that it is friendly for skiers of all levels. The resort is located on the famous Purgatory Mountain, so advanced skiers are certainly welcome, but novices are catered to as well.

What You Need to Know:

This is a big resort and even though it's very popular, you never really feel overcrowded. They move people right along on the lifts, to the tune of 15 thousand an hour and with more than 85 runs, you'll have plenty of room to enjoy yourself. About 23% of the runs here are meant for novices, with the rest focused mainly on intermediate skiers. However, the advanced trails here are incredible and if you do know how to ski, we highly recommend trying at least one. The longest run here is more than 11,000 feet, so you may want to pack a lunch.

There is one halfpipe set aside for snowboarders and there are also two terrain parkers that are suited for boarding or for beginning skiers. The facilities are all very well maintained and the trails are impeccably groomed here. They get about 260 inches of snow here, but they still make their own snow to ensure that the trails are all top notch.

Tips for Beginners:

Some of the best pros in the world teach here, so if you are serious about learning how to ski or snowboard, this is quite possibly the best place to get it done. They offer lessons at several times throughout the day and snowboarding lessons are also offered.

Perhaps the best part of this resort is their kid's program and they do a fantastic job of teaching kids all the basics they'll need to become world class skiers, or just to have fun with it. Out of all of the resorts we've visited in this area, this one probably had the best teaching staff and the best lesson plans and schedule. We highly recommend this resort to beginners.

While you are here, you have to try out the NASTAR system, regardless of how well you ski. This is a special program to teach speed skiing and you'll be able to compare how well you do against the best in the sport. These also offer specialized training for this discipline here and many consider them to be the best in the world for this sport.

About the Resort:

Arapahoe Basin Resort is considered to be one of the finest places to ski in North America and they also feature one of the longest seasons on record. If you are serious about having fun, or if you just like to ski, this is the ideal place to visit. Whether you live in the area, or you are planning a trip to this region, your time to ski at Arapahoe Basin will definitely be well spent. We found the staff there to be incredibly helpful and it was one of the nicest resorts we have been to in quite some time.

What You Need to Know:

The season opens here on October 10th, and goes all the way through June 1st. This gives you more than enough time to schedule a vacation and have plenty of fun. It's nice to see a resort that is open this long, and with this many chances to ski, it's easy to find time to get on the slopes.

The resort currently has more than 100 open trails, and the lift systems move around 10,000 people an hour. During peak times it may get a bit crowded, but they do a good job of moving everything through quickly. We found wait times to be less than five minutes on average, and that was during a very busy day.

The terrain here is idyllic for downhill skiing and snowboarders are also very welcome here. Even though they don't have a half pipe set up, they do have two terrain parks that offer some excellent opportunities for boarding.

The resort is currently working on a new bowl that will be open for the 2008/2009 season and this promises to be incredibly popular. They've done a great job of improving the resort and each year they do something to make it better. This latest improvement offers some great opportunities for intermediate and professional skiers.

Tips for Beginners:

Even though this is a great resort, you'll only find about 10 trails that are suitable for beginners. Don't let that get you down however, the ten are excellent and we found some great teachers on staff. Lessons are held throughout the day and the pros are patient, and will provide good, solid groundwork for your skiing future.

The terrain parks are also novice friendly and snowboarding instruction is also available.
