Best Skis for Alpine Skiing
November 11th, 2011 | Product Reviews, Skiing, Skis
Having the right skis when you go alpine skiing is absolutely vital if you want to get the most out of the slopes. Here is a brief review of the best skis for alpine skiing and what they can afford you.
- Kastle MX 88 -
These are new skis for 2009, capitalizing on a name that was popular for racing skis, especially in the nineties. They disappeared off the radar for a short while but are back and better than ever with a killer line up of team skis and some excellent investors in the form of ex-Austrian racing greats. These skis are a little pricey for what they are, but if you are looking for an excellent ski and can afford a bit more for a good set of skis, then the Kastle MX 88 skis for 2009 are the way to go.
- Nordica Olympia Victory -
Released for the 2008 season, the Nordica Olympia Victory offers a similar feel to what you would already be used to with the Olympia Speed, but these skis are a little wider so they feel more secure. The downside to the width is the fact that they take a little bit more effort to maneuver, but this is something that you can get used to with practice. The Nordica Olympia Victory is an excellent choice if you ski West and East.
- Stockli Snake Coral -
Ride any other ski for a few days and then put on a pair of Stockli Snake Corals and you will suddenly find yourself with a drastically different skiing experience on your hands. It's difficult to come up with any flaws or downsides to this unique alpine ski, which provides excellent stability and maneuverability. If you are looking for a versatile ski providing an experience that is completely unique to every other ski you try, the Stockli Snake Coral is the way to go.
- Nordica Olympia Speed -
The Nordica Olympia Speed alpine ski was released for the 2008 ski season. Offering a narrower experience under foot, the Nordica Olympia Speed ski is a good choice for women and skiers that spend more time on Eastern runs and groomers than on other slopes. If you are looking for an experience with softer snow or glades then the Nordica Olympia Victory may be the preferable choice for you. The construction for both skis is quite similar, however the dimensions have enough differences that your decision should be influenced by them.
- Volkl Tigershark 10 Foot Power Switch -
These are excellent skis with a good working dial. Released for the 2007 ski season, the Volkl Tigershark 10 Foot Power Switch is a unique ski that gets stiffer and provides significantly more pressure to the tail and the tip when you turn the dial clockwise. This is a great ski if you want to create drastically different skiing experiences depending where you are and what you feel like.
