Atomic Metron II B5 skis may not be the cheapest skis on the market, but they certainly are among the best. With a retail price of around $1000, they will set you back, but in return, you’ll be getting a high quality ski and one that will offer you more than enough support out on the trail. While many skis are completely subjective to skiers, these are one of the few that are enjoyed by nearly everyone that tries it.
Biggest Pros:
Even though the price tag is nearly double their competitors, the Atomic Metron II B5 skis are more than just a pair of skis. They are considered to be an all-in-one ski that removes the need for having to purchase different kinds of skis for different disciplines. Whether you’re into Nordic, alpine or just regular downhill skiing, you’ll be able to use them no matter what you plan to do. This can actually help you save money over the long term.
These are fast skis and they are perfect for any kind of terrain. If you live in an area that gets only spotty snow, or your favorite trails are not always groomed to perfection, you’ll be just fine with these skis.
The overall maneuverability is very good with these skis, and you’ll be able to cut an edge, take a corner or do just about anything with them. We found them to very capable in just about any condition, and they performed above most of the competition.
Biggest Cons:
Many consider these skis to be very heavy, whether you are wearing them or carrying them. While this is a subjective issue, it is something to think about. If possible, we recommend trying them out on a demo run at your local trails to see whether or not they feel heavy to you. While many consider them to be featherweight, there are others that find them just too heavy to use.
The overall design is a bit clunky and many people remark that the skis are actually very ugly. While they do lose points for aesthetic appeal, this is canceled out by how well they perform on the trail. You may get a few strange looks, but they are more than worth it once you give them a try.
Their handling on ice is probably the biggest point of contention for most users and they definitely do have a problem if conditions are very icy. This is a major con for a lot of people, but really only in areas that have a lot of ice build-up. If this is a problem in your area, you may want to consider another brand.
Overall Rating:
While they do have a few problems and the price tag is very high, we found that they were definitely worth the money thanks to their handling and the ability to use them in many different situations. We didn’t find the skis to be heavy, and would definitely purchase them again in the future if this pair ever wears out.
