Daron Rahlve was born in Walnut Creek, CA in 1973 and it is simply fate that he ended up being born into an area that is synonymous with skiing. Considered by many to be the single best speed skier in the world, Rahlve is also known for his humble and quiet nature and his ability to get out there and get the job done.
He rose to prominence at the same time Bode Miller did and although Miller outshone him in many cases, it was Rahlves ability to keep bringing in medals that earned him his acclaim. Although he disappointed fans in the 2006 Olympics by failing to bring home any medals, he still has a devoted fan base. He commented on Miller’s rise to prominence stating that it didn’t really affect him that he didn’t get all of the attention and he’s just happy that skiing got a little more recognition as the result of Miller’s popularity.

What’s He Doing Now?
You’ll find him skiing at Squaw Valley or Sugar Bowl on a regular basis, but Rahlves doesn’t stop there. He’s also an avid fan of motocross and jet skiing. In fact, he’s even taken home a world championship for jet skiing, showing that he definitely has the need for speed, no matter what type of sport he’s playing.
Rahlve is a current member of the US Ski Team and is involved in numerous projects as well as continued training.

Interesting and Inspiring Quotes:
“I like to stand in the back. I really don't pay attention to it too much. There's a lot said. I just try to stay out of it. I'm a skier, not a talker.”
“As far as the media stuff is concerned, he's (Miller) gotten a lot of play, a lot of (magazine) covers. That's good for our sport. To me, it's not really a big issue of me getting all the press. It's more like trying to get our sport some press, to get people to know what's coming up. ... What it comes down to, ultimately, is who's going to be skiing faster.”
“You see some of the best guys in the world crash. To me, that's what the sport is really about. You want to see guys put down some runs, like Franz Klammer back in the day.”
