About the Resort:
Arapahoe Basin Resort is considered to be one of the finest places to ski in North America and they also feature one of the longest seasons on record. If you are serious about having fun, or if you just like to ski, this is the ideal place to visit. Whether you live in the area, or you are planning a trip to this region, your time to ski at Arapahoe Basin will definitely be well spent. We found the staff there to be incredibly helpful and it was one of the nicest resorts we have been to in quite some time.
What You Need to Know:
The season opens here on October 10th, and goes all the way through June 1st. This gives you more than enough time to schedule a vacation and have plenty of fun. It's nice to see a resort that is open this long, and with this many chances to ski, it's easy to find time to get on the slopes.
The resort currently has more than 100 open trails, and the lift systems move around 10,000 people an hour. During peak times it may get a bit crowded, but they do a good job of moving everything through quickly. We found wait times to be less than five minutes on average, and that was during a very busy day.
The terrain here is idyllic for downhill skiing and snowboarders are also very welcome here. Even though they don't have a half pipe set up, they do have two terrain parks that offer some excellent opportunities for boarding.
The resort is currently working on a new bowl that will be open for the 2008/2009 season and this promises to be incredibly popular. They've done a great job of improving the resort and each year they do something to make it better. This latest improvement offers some great opportunities for intermediate and professional skiers.
Tips for Beginners:
Even though this is a great resort, you'll only find about 10 trails that are suitable for beginners. Don't let that get you down however, the ten are excellent and we found some great teachers on staff. Lessons are held throughout the day and the pros are patient, and will provide good, solid groundwork for your skiing future.
The terrain parks are also novice friendly and snowboarding instruction is also available.
