About the Resort:

Alta Ski Area is a very popular Utah ski resort that offers many different activities that the entire family can enjoy. From backcountry packing trips, to helicopter rides and of course, skiing, there is more than enough to do to keep busy while you are here. The facilities are top notch and we had a great time during our stay here. We'll definitely be returning and it is easy to see why so many other travelers make that same decision.

What You Need to Know:

The resort opens on the last day of November and stays open through April. You'll have plenty of time to test out the trails here and we found that even though the resort is incredibly popular, it's never really overcrowded. With more than 2200 acres to go around, you'll have plenty of room to spread out.

The resort has 115 trails that are served by numerous different types of lifts. They move around 12,000 people an hour so standing in line will not be a problem, at least for very long. During peak seasons, there may be a short wait, but generally, we found that everything goes very smoothly.

The trails are very well groomed and the resort does supplement with some manufactured snow, especially during the dry months.

Tips for Beginners:

All of the instructors here teach the renowned Alf Engen method of skiing and if you're serious about learning, this is probably the best place to get instruction. Given the quality of the lessons, the rates are very low and you'll walk away with quite a lot of knowledge.

25% of the trails here are just right for beginners but you'll definitely want to avoid the Main Chute until you get some more lessons under your belt. This is a great place to learn downhill skiing, and the lessons for kids are very good as well. All the instructors here are properly certified and they excel at laying a good groundwork.
