History of the Resort:

Alpine Meadows has a long history and for many people, it’s considered to be the premier place to ski in the Lake Tahoe area. Although accommodations are limited at the resort itself, there are many places to stay nearby. With more than 2400 acres of trails, a terrific lift system and a helpful staff, this is a great mountain for beginners and experts alike.

What You Need to Know:

Alpine Meadows is open from November to May, and their hours of operation are 9am to 4pm. Lift prices are reasonable and we’ve detailed these below. This is a very green operation, and the new management recently purchased wind generators that power the entire resort. Numerous special events are held here every year and the service is definitely top notch. The lodge is very well appointed and we found that the food was more than above average. This is a great place to bring the family, and although there are limited places to stay at the resort, you can still have a great weekend or even a whole week here.

Tips for Beginners:

There are lessons held at the mountain three times a day, every day. If you have never skied before we highly recommend taking at least one lesson. There are numerous lifts, for a total of 13. Some are high speed, and best avoided until you are more experienced.

There are also resources for snowboarders at this location, with 1 halfpipe and 2 terrain parks. If you don’t have your own board, you can rent one for $35 per day. Ski rentals are also available.

The Key Hole is the most difficult trail at Alpine Meadows and is only for experts. However, there are many different trails that are suitable for beginners and still offer a lot of fun. With more than 100 trails from which to choose, it’s easy to find the one that is right for you. The staff is very helpful at recommending which ones are suitable for beginners.

If you really want to get serious about skiing, there are also private lessons available with some of today’s hottest skiers and snowboarders. The cost is relatively low and you’ll get a great chance to learn at the feet of some of the masters of the sport.
